‘Duty to remember:’ Events to mark eighth anniversary of Quebec City mosque attack

Eight years after the attack, only one bullet hole remains in the wall of the Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec as a reminder of the tragedy that occurred on January 29, 2017, killing six men who were praying.
On January 29, 2025, events are planned in Montreal and Quebec City to commemorate the victims, including a ceremony led by Mayor Valérie Plante and a vigil outside Montreal's Parc metro station.
Mohamed Labidi, president of the mosque, expressed concern that the community is starting to forget the tragedy, stating, "It seems like people are starting to forget."
Samira Laouni, a vigil organizer, emphasized the impact of the attack, noting, "Their violent deaths left six widows without their husbands and 17 orphans without their fathers.
