Duncan man behind Vancouver Island swings eyes Highlands, Sooke for new seats
King plans more hand-carved swings after seeing community use and requests for memorial dedications, with three sentimental commissions already in progress.
Duncan man Kalon King plans to install new wooden swings at Jocelyn Hill and Sooke, continuing a project that has placed scenic installations across Vancouver Island.
Following personal hardships including separation and business loss, King began creating swings to find purpose; a Facebook page later reignited his passion by connecting him with community requests.
King currently has three sentimental swings in production: one for a friend considering MAiD, another for a gentleman mourning his son, and a third for a traveler honoring her late father.
To address concerns about impromptu infrastructure, King prioritizes tree health and distances installations from dangers, encouraging users to exercise personal responsibility when enjoying his swings.
As he embarks on summer adventures, King plans to carry swing supplies to seize spontaneous opportunities while developing a tracking system to deter theft of his installations.
