Driver in custody after car crashes into lobby of Massachusetts police station

Robert McCluskey admitted to intentionally crashing his SUV into the police station; damage exceeds $1 million and no injuries were reported, police said.

  • On Monday, a black 2022 BMW SUV rammed through the front of the red brick Shrewsbury Police Department lobby, ending up entirely inside the building.
  • Shrewsbury Police Chief Kevin Anderson said the driver is known to the department, police believe the act was intentional, and the cause remains under investigation.
  • Officers and aerial units secured the perimeter as officers stood outside the damaged front door, drones hovered overhead, and police roped off the front of the station during the investigation.
  • The lobby remains closed while officers investigate at the station about 40 miles west of Boston, the Shrewsbury Police Department said, urging reports by calling 508-845-1212 and 911 for emergencies.
  • The driver was taken into custody and sent to a nearby hospital, and officials say the driver is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday while the investigation continues, with Associated Press and Boston 25 News reporting from the scene.
