Driver in crash that killed musician has more than 100 past arrests, police say
Shannon Godbout faces charges including driving to endanger resulting in death and drug possession after hitting musician Roderick MacLeod, who was walking his dog in Hopkinton.
- Saturday morning around 7:21 a.m., a pedestrian walking his dogs was struck on Spring Street in Hopkinton and later died at Rhode Island Hospital.
- Shannon N. Godbout's record shows she had 102 arrests, 40 traffic citations, 82 court warrants, and was court ordered into substance abuse counselling seven times, most recently in April.
- Police say Godbout was preliminarily charged with driving so as to endanger resulting in death and possession of narcotics, Schedule I/II with intent to distribute, and officers found numerous illegal narcotics and packaging materials at the crash scene.
- The Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame wrote that Roderick MacLeod, 70, Grammy-nominated bassist with Roomful of Blues, was mourned by bandmates praising his musical contributions.
- Police say the investigation continues with state reconstruction teams, Godbout remained in custody at a hospital and will be presented to a Justice of the Peace and to the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office, and is due in court Tuesday.
