Why Victor Wembanyama Is at Risk of Suspension in NBA Finals After Latest Flagrant Foul
The league said no fine or suspension will follow, leaving Wembanyama with two postseason flagrant points after the review.
On Tuesday, the NBA confirmed it will not upgrade San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama's shove of New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson to a flagrant foul after reviewing Monday's Game 3.
Acknowledging the mistake, NBA head of officiating Monty McCutchen admitted on ESPN's "NBA Today" that officials missed the call, stating, "We did a poor job of that here" regarding the screening action.
The ruling keeps Wembanyama at two flagrant foul points for the postseason, preventing an automatic suspension. Players face automatic suspension if they reach four flagrant foul points, allowing the Spurs star to continue playing against the Knicks.
Disputing the officiating, Knicks coach Mike Brown questioned the 24-8 free throw disparity during the second half of Monday's 115-111 game. The Spurs won, cutting the New York series lead to 2-1.
Game 4 tips off Wednesday, June 10, at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks currently lead the series 2-1, following their loss in the previous contest.
