Dr Kyana McCord Brings the Becoming Brooklyn Series Full Circle with Nothing Was Missing
Dr Kyana McCord closes the series with a final book that examines absence, family ties and forgiveness through Brooklyn's changing relationships.
On Saturday, October 24, 2026, Brooklyn-born author Dr. Kyana McCord released Nothing Was Missing, the fourth and concluding installment of her Becoming Brooklyn Series. This final chapter addresses questions the protagonist has carried throughout the series regarding her mother.
The story follows Brooklyn, a Miami Eagles WNBA co-owner, as her life is disrupted by the unexpected return of her estranged mother, Karla. Karla abandoned Brooklyn at age ten, leaving behind long-held secrets that threaten the stability Brooklyn has established.
Supported by a circle of women, the protagonist must confront childhood truths while navigating motherhood and leadership responsibilities. McCord explores whether forgiveness requires rebuilding relationships, illustrating that personal boundaries and meaningful family connections can coexist despite past abandonment.
Inspired by her own mother's presence, McCord aims to provide a contrasting experience of maternal absence. The author, an educator with a doctorate in family advocacy, continues to explore Black love and second chances through emotionally rich storytelling.
Readers can find the final installment on Amazon. McCord is currently working on two forthcoming titles, GREY and LOVE, GREY, expanding her catalog beyond previous works including What About Me? and Was It All For Jream?.
