Pakistan Facilitates Repatriation of 30 Iranian Nationals: Dar
Pakistan said 30 Iranian nationals, including 22 crew members from the Lenore/Davina, will transit through Karachi after a US interdiction.
On Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced Pakistan is facilitating the repatriation of 30 Iranian nationals, including eight fishermen rescued by a British vessel and 22 crew members from a United States-interdicted tanker.
According to the Foreign Office, the transfer serves as "confidence-building measures" amid regional tensions, with Pakistan coordinating with Iranian, United Kingdom, and United States authorities to ensure safe transit.
Both groups are expected to transit through Karachi in the coming days; the 22 crew members were aboard the Lenore/Davina, recently interdicted by the United States Pacific Command, while the fishermen were rescued by the MMA Valour.
Pakistan continues its role as a mediator between the United States and Iran, having previously facilitated the return of 11 Pakistanis and 20 Iranians through Singapore in May from seized vessels.
Dar held a telephone conversation with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Wednesday to exchange views on understandings reached between the United States and Iran and preparations for the forthcoming Regional Four meeting.
