Serbian government appoints Dragan Vasiljevic as police director

The Government of the Republic of Serbia adopted at today's session a resolution appointing Police General Dragan Vasiljevic as Police Director, the Government said. Vasiljević has so far held the position of Acting Director of Police

Aleksandar Vučić, the President of Serbia, said after yesterday's events in Novi Sad in front of the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education that it was evil in plain view and that he was not satisfied with the work of the police.

Vasiljević has previously served as acting police director.

Predsednik Aleksandar Vučić nazvao je incident u Novom Sadu „ogoljenim zlom“, priznao da nije zadovoljan radom policije i optužio demonstrante za nanošenje ozbiljne ekonomske štete zemlji.

A man from Novi Sad was banned from leaving his apartment, after he wrote a message in the Viber group of a local community and "threatened the safety of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić."

"The Serbian police are the only ones in the world that did not respond with serious use of force to such a brutal attack on the police officers and the dean, but rather with a push in which they received many more blows, bottles and stones on the heads," said the Serbian president.
