Dolphins re-signing K Zane Gonzalez, releasing K Riley Patterson
Miami is turning to Zane Gonzalez after Riley Patterson missed two field goals and an extra point in five games, officials said.
On Tuesday, the Miami Dolphins released placekicker Riley Patterson following weeks of persistent kicking inconsistency, signing Zane Gonzalez to the practice squad.
Patterson struggled through five games, missing two field goals and an extra point, and failed to execute kickoff strategies during the Oct. 11 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, surrendering an 81-yard return.
Gonzalez is 115 of 142 in his career on field goals and 18 of 28 on attempts of 50 or more yards, having previously worked under special teams coordinator Chris Tabor with the Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers.
The Dolphins also waived cornerback Storm Duck and edge Andre Jones, while signing edge Rodney McGraw off the practice squad to bolster special teams.
Coach Jeff Hafley noted the team evaluated all units during the bye week and emphasized that veteran players must perform at a high level.
