DOJ challenges Virginia laws restricting officer face coverings, ICE agreements
The complaint says the laws would let Virginia police face a misdemeanor for masks and block 287(g) immigration agreements.
The Trump administration's Justice Department is contesting Virginia laws that limit federal immigration officers' actions and face coverings.
A complaint was filed in the Eastern District of Virginia's Richmond Division against laws banning federal officers from wearing masks and restricting 287 agreements with state and local agencies.
The Justice Department claims the mask ban unlawfully regulates the federal government and could criminalize federal officers for concealing their identities.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that officers risk their lives and should not face harassment for performing their duties under the new laws.
