YOLO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, JUL 11 – Firefighters faced dual hazards from stored fireworks and ammunition during a deadly explosion at a licensed gun sales and fireworks facility, officials said.
- A fireworks warehouse exploded on July 1 near Esparto, California, killing seven men and igniting the Oakdale Fire that burned 80 acres.
- The property was owned by Yolo County Sheriff's Lt. Sam Machado and was zoned Agricultural Intensive, which prohibits fireworks storage without approved permits.
- Victims ranged in age from 18 to 45 and came from multiple Northern California communities including Stockton, San Francisco, San Pablo, Sacramento, San Andreas, and Calaveras County.
