New Look at Big Changes Coming to Disney Parks | D23 Underway in California
Disney said the new land will include two attractions and open around 2028 or 2029, while Animal Kingdom rides are set for 2027.
- At the D23 fan convention in California, Disney unveiled a 19-by-19-foot model of Piston Peak National Park, a Cars-themed area replacing the former Rivers of America at Magic Kingdom. The project is expected to open around 2028.
- Tharin White of EYNTK noted a shift in Disney's approach at this year's D23. "Disney's coming across very confident with solid things," White said, contrasting current tangible plans with the "blue sky" ideas from 2024 and 2022.
- Describing the new ride technology, White compared them to "Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway" or "Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance." He said, "They look a lot like Test Track, kind of like an off-road version of Test Track."
- Disney also revealed new details for the Tropical Americas section at Animal Kingdom, including an Encanto attraction with an animatronic capybara and an Indiana Jones ride replacing Dinosaur. Both are expected to open in 2027.
- The new area will include a Miss Fritter ride alongside another attraction, with White describing the full model as "the 'Cars Land' area of what we're going to have at Magic Kingdom." Piston Peak National Park will feature family-friendly experiences.
