Discover Alzheimer's? Coimbra University Will Produce Radiopharmaceutical

Healthy people with the APOE4 gene, the main genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease, present a unique intestinal microbiota that is different from those without this gene, according to research by the European University, the Complutense University of Madrid and the Francisco de Vitoria University.

Radiopharmaceutical medicine, which has not yet been produced in Portugal, allows more precise diagnosis of the disease. PET exams are carried out in ICNAS.

In a note sent to the Lusa Agency, the UC noted that the innovative radiopharmaceutical came to transform the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and to open new perspectives for its treatment.
