Swiss national railway unveils new night train to Sweden via Denmark and Germany
After months of uncertainty about the future of night trains, Swiss railway SBB has revealed the details of its upcoming service to Malmö via Copenhagen, departing from Basel.
It will soon be possible to take a night train from Malmö to Basel in Switzerland. The trains will start running in mid-April 2026 with three departures a week, the Swiss railway company SBB writes in a press release.
For the first time in 12 years, Danish train travelers will finally have a real opportunity to travel by night train when EuroNight departs this spring.
Three departures a week – Malmö
A direct night train service between Basel and the Swedish city of Malmö is expected to launch in mid-April. However, Parliament still needs to approve the budget.
The new Swiss EuroNight runs three times a week from 15 April 2026 with stops in Freiburg, Karlsruhe and Mannheim. It offers around 350 travellers in three classes.
