Direct Bangladesh-Pakistan Flights to Resume After 14 Years
Biman Bangladesh Airlines will operate twice weekly flights to Karachi, easing travel and boosting business ties after 14 years without direct service, officials said.
- Starting January 29, Biman Bangladesh Airlines will resume direct Dhaka–Karachi flights, restoring non-stop connectivity after more than a decade, with services on Thursdays and Saturdays.
- Plans announced during Ishaq Dar's August visit followed months of talks amid warming ties after Sheikh Hasina's ouster in 2024.
- Airline manager Bosra Islam told AFP that flights will operate on Thursdays and Saturdays, departing Dhaka at 8:00 p.m. and arriving in Karachi at 11:00 p.m., using modern aircraft and experienced crews.
- The relaunch will make travel easier for passengers between Bangladesh and Pakistan, who currently rely on connecting flights through Gulf hubs such as Dubai and Doha with journeys lasting up to 22 hours.
- The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority approved the route, but it is not immediately known whether New Delhi has granted overflight clearance for the planned path spanning around 2,370 kilometres, reflecting sensitivities dating to the 1971 split.
