Dinusha and Mendis defy West Indies, guide Sri Lanka to 402-5 in second test
Sonal Dinusha and Kusal Mendis shared a 143-run stand as Sri Lanka reached 549-9 and declared its first innings.
Sri Lanka declared its first innings at 549-9 on the second day of the second test in Antigua on Saturday, anchored by a 143-run partnership between Sonal Dinusha and Kusal Mendis for the sixth wicket.
Lahiru Udara scored 188 and Kamindu Mendis added 84 on Day 1, establishing a foundation that allowed the visitors to resume on 338-5 and defy the West Indies bowlers throughout the second session.
Dinusha made 92 and Mendis scored 69, batting through much of the second session, while West Indies pacers were hampered by John Campbell dropping a regulation catch at first slip of Shamar Joseph.
Facing the massive total, the West Indies finished at 58-1 after 24 overs before stumps, still trailing by 491 runs, with Brandon King falling for 17 and Campbell joining Kavem Hodge at the crease.
The West Indies leads the two-match series after winning the first test by an innings and 217 runs, marking its first win in eight World Test Championship games.
