Bo Nix Says His Ankle Is Fine, but a Mental Hurdle Lingers as His Slump Drags On
Bo Nix says his ankle is fine, but the Broncos quarterback admits he is fighting a mental hurdle as his production drops this season.
Denver Broncos quarterback Nix acknowledged this week there is a "mental hurdle" regarding his surgically repaired right ankle, providing insight into his season-long performance slump.
Nix suffered a fractured ankle in the Denver Broncos' 33-30 overtime win over the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round of the playoffs, requiring two surgeries that caused him to miss the AFC championship.
After averaging 231.2 yards passing last year, Nix is averaging 174.8 yards this year; his rushing production has dropped to 37 yards on 22 carries so far.
Coach Sean Payton insisted benching Nix is not the answer, noting the quarterback's play is not the only offensive issue; rookie Jonah Coleman returns from injured reserve to strengthen the ground attack.
Despite the slump, Nix remains confident he will return to his previous form, aiming to improve one game at a time as the Denver Broncos seek to regain momentum.
