DFL's Steve Simon wins fourth term as Minnesota secretary of state
Simon won 55.4% of the vote as he secured a fourth term after campaigning on expanded voting access and election administration.
On Tuesday, Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon won re-election to a third term, defeating Republican challenger Tad Jude in the mid-term election.
First elected in 2014, the DFL incumbent is the longest-serving member among Minnesota's five elected constitutional officers, with the position carrying a four-year term.
With an estimated 92.4% of votes counted, Simon secured 1,477,017 votes, or 55.4%, while Jude received 1,095,574 votes, or 41.1%.
Simon implemented laws expanding voting access including automatic voter registration, while Jude advocated requiring photo identification to vote.
The Secretary of State oversees elections administered at the county level and maintains the statewide voter registration database, following 2024 criticism regarding the automatic registration rollout.
