Truck stolen by escaped Tennessee inmate is found abandoned in southern Illinois, authorities say
Surveillance showed Jacob Morley driving away in a stolen truck after slipping through a fence, and investigators said he remained at large.
- Convicted killer Jacob Morley escaped the Northwest Correctional Complex in Lake County, Tennessee, late on Sunday. He was serving a life sentence for the 2022 murder of co-worker Cody Birchfield.
- Morley allegedly stole a white Ford F-350 marked with "Lindamood Planting Company" from the 400 block of Keystone Drive at 1 a.m. Monday. Authorities found the vehicle abandoned Tuesday in Marion, Illinois.
- The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Tennessee Department of Correction are leading the search, labeling Morley an "urgent priority for law enforcement," authorities said. Officials have offered a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to his arrest.
- Marion Police Chief David Fitts reported that surveillance footage captured the truck parked neatly at 4 a.m. Tuesday before it was discovered later that morning. Residents are urged to call 911 or the TBI if they have information.
- Recent reports indicate the Northwest Correctional Complex faces significant staffing shortages, with 470 open positions among its 6,000-person workforce. Investigations into security lapses at the prison, which houses 1,776 inmates, are ongoing following the escape.
