FLORIDA, JUL 2 – Governor Ron DeSantis signed the ninth death warrant of 2025 in Florida, surpassing the modern-era record for executions in a single year, officials said.
- Zakrzewski, once an airman at Eglin Air Force Base, is scheduled for lethal injection on July 31, 2025, at Florida State Prison for the 1994 murders of his wife and two children.
- Zakrzewski committed these murders in Okaloosa County after his wife, Sylvia, sought a divorce, and he later turned himself in following the airing of his case on Unsolved Mysteries.
- Court records indicate that on June 9, 1994, Zakrzewski attacked his wife Sylvia using a crowbar and machete before strangling her, and then killed his young children Edward, aged seven, and Anna, aged five, with the machete.
- On July 1, Governor Ron DeSantis authorized Edward J. Zakrzewski II’s execution, which represents the ninth death warrant he has issued in 2025, setting a new modern-era record for Florida governors by exceeding the previous high of eight warrants signed in both 1984 and 2014.
