Denmark Arrests Two Men for Spying
Police say the men photographed a counter-drone firm and sent the images on, an alleged reconnaissance step tied to Russian intelligence.
On Monday, October 19, North Jutland Police arrested two Ukrainian nationals, aged 18 and 21, on suspicion of espionage. "We carried out the arrest of two people on Monday October 19th," the police said in a statement.
Prosecutors allege the suspects photographed MyDefence, a drone detection firm, and transmitted images via Telegram to unidentified accomplices. Both men denied the charges during a Tuesday hearing in Aalborg.
Defence lawyer Rasmus Amandusson, representing the 21-year-old, stated both men had worked in Denmark for less than a year and denied the charges. The court allowed police to hold them for three additional days.
Justice Minister Nicolai Wammen stated the security situation is serious, citing the Danish Security and Intelligence Service, PET, report of considerable Russian interest in gathering information and preparing sabotage in Denmark.
MyDefence chief executive Dan Hermansen reported a Russian cyberattack targeting the company last year, and Russian services are actively preparing sabotage against European defence companies through reconnaissance and photography.
Two young people, aged 18 and 21, were arrested in Denmark under suspicion of spying on Russian intelligence services, in a case involving a Danish defence technology company providing anti-drone equipment to Ukraine and NATO forces, according to thelocal.dk.
