Dendermonde, Berlare, Buggenhout, Hamme, Lebbeke and Zele will merge their police zones into 1 large zone. The new police zone should be operational from 1 January 2029 and will then have more than 400 officers. In this way, the mayors of the municipalities involved want to be better armed against more complex security challenges such as cybercrime and terrorism.
