Democrats won back support from five key groups that shifted toward Trump in 2024: The AP Voter Poll
The poll shows Democrats regained ground with voters under 30, Hispanic voters and Black voters as concerns over costs and Trump’s leadership drove the shift.
- On Wednesday, November 04, 2026, Democrats were projected to retake the House and Senate, delivering a sweeping rebuke of GOP governance as voters shifted decisively away from President Donald Trump's coalition.
- Rising inflation and government corruption fueled the shift, with roughly 79% of voters reporting severe or moderate hardship from inflation and blaming Trump's policies for elevated costs.
- Young, Hispanic, and Black voters reversed their 2024 support, with about 7 in 10 voters under 30 backing Democratic House candidates, while roughly 6 in 10 Hispanic voters voted Democratic.
- A White House official claimed losses were the 'candidates' own fault,' while Congress is poised to launch investigations that threaten to halt Trump's remaining legislative agenda.
- Political exhaustion with Trump's brand appears to be growing as voters increasingly express opposition to his leadership, with implications for his path toward the 2028 presidential election.
