Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wins reelection to U.S. House in New York's 14th Congressional District
The daughter of retiring Senator Jeanne Shaheen won the open seat after focusing on healthcare access and defeating Republican Anthony DiLorenzo, AP said.
On Tuesday, Democrat Stefany Shaheen won New Hampshire's 1st Congressional District, defeating Republican Anthony DiLorenzo, while Delaware voters returned Congresswoman Sarah McBride to the U.S. House for a second term.
Shaheen, the daughter of retiring U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, succeeded outgoing Rep. Chris Pappas in a district held by Democrats since 2018, positioning her within a political dynasty.
McBride, the first out transgender federal lawmaker, secured reelection after visiting all 57 of Delaware's incorporated communities in 57 hours to launch her bid, per The Advocate reporting.
DiLorenzo, who pumped $6 million of his own money into the race, fell short as both victories bolster Democratic efforts to compete for House of Representatives control.
Going forward, Shaheen aims to lead on health research and address costs, while McBride returns to an institution where her presence has faced scrutiny from House Republicans.
The Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won the elections in New York City's 14th constituency, according to a projection by Associated Press. Thus, she gets a fifth term in the House of Representatives, where she occupies a place in 2019.
