High Court refuses urgent listing of plea against ban on non BS VI vehicles in Delhi from Nov 1

The court said there was no urgency and noted that BS-VI, CNG and electric vehicles can still enter the capital.

  • Effective from November 1, 2026, the Delhi government prohibited the entry of non-BS-VI vehicles registered outside Delhi under the Graded Response Action Plan, which remains in force until January 31, 2027.
  • Persistent air pollution caused by vehicular emissions prompted the restrictions, which affect more than 10 lakh vehicles in neighbouring NCR areas including Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad.
  • The Delhi Taxi and Tourist Transporters Association urged Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to withdraw the restrictions, claiming they would "dampen the transporters' Diwali festivities." Transporters say BS-IV vehicles will prevent their livelihoods.
  • On Friday, the Delhi High Court Bar Association urged Acting Chief Justice Nitin Wasudeo Sambre to exempt judicial officers, advocates, and court staff, saying they "cater to the essential service of dispensation of justice."
  • Acting Chief Justice Sambre and Justice Sanjay Sharma declined to expedite a legal challenge, stating there was "nothing wrong in it, nothing urgent" regarding the government's decision.
