Delhi man arrested for uploading Siddaramaiah-targeting video, gets bail; JDS link under probe
- On Saturday, the Central Crime Branch arrested Delhi-based Ritesh Pandey in connection with an alleged sting operation targeting Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The arrest marks the first custody in the controversial case.
- Last month, two videos containing serious allegations against Siddaramaiah were uploaded on YouTube. Siddaramaiah obtained a court injunction and termed the operation "totally concocted," saying it was intended to blackmail him.
- Investigators revealed Pandey allegedly used a second-hand SIM card and mobile device to upload the footage. He was produced before a Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Saturday and granted bail subject to cooperation with the investigation.
- The probe has widened, with officials summoning several individuals, including Kannada news channel head Rakesh Shetty. Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah alleged members of his own party and a media organization head orchestrated the campaign against his father.
- Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge pledged a transparent investigation, stating authorities will "expose everything in a few days." The offence is punishable with imprisonment of less than seven years according to available legal information.
