Delaying transfer of inmates within Taiping Prison could have avoided Jan 17 violence, says prison deputy director - Twentytwo13

Deputy director of Taiping Prison, Superintendent Shahrul Izzat Hamid, told a Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) public inquiry that his director had cut him off for suggesting a delay in the transfer of inmates, and that an order was made to move the prisoners on Jan 17 – the day violence broke out, leaving one inmate dead.
