April McClain Delaney Wins Maryland's 6th District Democratic Primary
The race drew millions in spending, and McClain Delaney defeated billionaire David Trone after attacks over her vote on the Laken Riley Act.
On Tuesday, Rep. April McClain Delaney won the Democratic primary for Maryland's 6th District, defeating billionaire David Trone in a contest that could become the most expensive House of Representatives election in history.
Trone, a self-funded billionaire, loaned his campaign $25 million to reclaim the seat he previously held, while McClain Delaney countered by investing at least $7 million of her own fortune.
Trone's campaign heavily criticized McClain Delaney for her January 2025 vote supporting the Laken Riley Act, which requires the Department of Homeland Security to detain migrants arrested for theft or shoplifting.
McClain Delaney was one of 44 House Democrats who voted for the bill, later expressing regret over how the Department of Homeland Security utilized the law.
The representative now advances to the November general election, where Robin Ficker currently leads the GOP field, which also includes Chris Burnett and Mariela Roca.
