– There is no doubt that 2024 was a year of crisis for the municipal economy. And it is still strained in many municipalities, says KS chairwoman, Gunn Marit Helgesen.

Figures from the Norwegian Council of Ministers show that 206 municipalities had a deficit in 2024. This corresponds to 58 percent of the country's municipalities, and marks a clear increase from the previous year, when 157 municipalities had a negative result. In 2022, only 50 municipalities were in the red.
