Defending Champion US Rebounds From Loss to Switzerland by Beating Britain 5-1 at Ice Hockey Worlds
Isaac Howard scored twice and the Americans added three more goals in the final period to rebound from a loss to Switzerland.
On Sunday, the defending champion United States defeated tournament newcomer Britain 5-1 at the IIHF Men's Ice Hockey World Championship in Zurich, Switzerland, with Isaac Howard scoring twice.
Entering the day in fifth place after an opening loss to Switzerland, the Americans moved into fourth place in Group A following the victory. "You have to be willing to grind through games in these tournaments," USA coach Don Granato said.
Paul Cotter and Mathieu Olivier each recorded three points, while Declan Carlile added a goal and an assist. Goaltender Devin Cooley finished with 19 saves.
The Americans face Finland on Monday in a Group A matchup. Finland currently sits atop the standings alongside Switzerland, each holding two wins and six points.
Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk arrives Tuesday to bolster the roster, bringing gold-medal experience from the Milan Cortina Olympics. His addition strengthens Team USA's depth for remaining group play.
