Deadline to File a Claim for Payment in Trader Joe's Receipt Settlement Is Almost Here
Eligible customers could receive about $102.45 each if a court approves the deal, and claims must be filed by June 9.
On Tuesday, June 9, Trader Joe's shoppers must file claims for a $7.4 million class-action settlement alleging the grocer violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act by printing excessive credit card digits on receipts.
Customer Brian Keim filed the lawsuit in Florida on July 17, 2019, after receiving a receipt displaying 10 digits of his debit card number, allegedly exposing him to identity theft risk.
Only purchases between March 5, 2019, and July 19, 2019, qualify for compensation; eligible claimants are estimated to receive about $102, though final amounts depend on the total number of valid claims submitted.
Trader Joe's denies wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid further litigation, noting that no customers reported experiencing identity theft from the 2019 printing error.
The settlement requires final court approval at a hearing scheduled for early August; Trader Joe's previously paid $1.3 million in 2021 to settle allegations of underfilling tuna tins by up to 24.8 percent.
