DCCC adds Maine’s Matt Dunlap and 4 others to ‘Red to Blue’ program
The committee’s latest recruits bring the program to 37 candidates as it targets several Republican-held districts that backed Donald Trump by double digits.
- On Thursday, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee added five candidates to its 'Red to Blue' program, bringing the roster to 37 Democrats positioned to flip Republican-held House seats.
- The new recruits include Maine State Auditor Matt Dunlap, Army veteran Leela Gray, prosecutor Zach Dembo, Navy veteran Nancy Lacore, and former Rep. Tom Perriello, all running in districts Donald Trump won in 2024.
- In Kentucky's 6th District, Dembo faces Republican Ralph Alvarado; he said, "no one in central Kentucky wakes up thinking that they are Republican or Democrat or red or blue," citing Governor Andy Beshear's 20-point reelection victory there.
- Republicans immediately criticized the additions, with NRCC spokesman Reilly Richardson calling Lacore a "poll-constructed fraud" and labeling Perriello a "retread loser," arguing they represent a "far-left agenda" voters will reject.
- These additions follow the committee's decision to expand its 'Districts in Play' target list to 58 seats, as DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene called the recruits "proven fighters" with roughly two-and-a-half months before November.
