Dave Grohl "Walked Off Stage and Broke Down in Tears" After Playing 'Highway To Hell' with AC/DC
Grohl said the performance brought him back to the AC/DC show that inspired him as a child, and he broke down in tears afterward.
On October 2, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl joined rock legends AC/DC on stage at MetLife Stadium East Rutherford, performing the 1979 classic 'Highway to Hell' during the final show of AC/DC's two-year 'Power Up' tour.
After The Pretty Reckless canceled, Foo Fighters were tapped to support the Australian rockers. AC/DC rescheduled the date from September 25 due to severe weather, creating an unexpected opportunity for Grohl to join the bill.
Grohl described the experience as "one of the most full-circle moments of my entire life," admitting he "broke down in tears" after leaving the stage. He noted the MetLife Stadium East Rutherford stage was the loudest he had ever stood on, surpassing even Motorhead.
Watching AC/DC's 1980 documentary 'Let There Be Rock' as an 11-year-old shaped Grohl's entire career trajectory and passion for live performance. The performance realized a childhood dream that had inspired him for decades.
AC/DC has not announced future plans following the tour's conclusion, though lead singer Brian Johnson told fans, "We hope we'll see you again." Foo Fighters continue their 'Take Cover' tour through early 2027.
