Darline Graham Faces Annie Andrews in Tight South Carolina Senate Race
Polls show a near tie as Trump-backed Darline Graham faces criticism over inexperience and family ties in a race Democrats hope to flip.
- The South Carolina Senate race between Republican appointee Darline Graham and Democrat Annie Andrews has tightened into a dead heat, with recent polling showing both candidates tied at 48%.
- Following the death of longtime Senator Lindsey Graham in July, Republican Governor Henry McMaster appointed his sister Darline to complete the term; President Donald Trump subsequently encouraged her to seek a full six-year term.
- The GOP allocated an additional $5 million to support Graham last month, while Trump campaigned in Pendleton, South Carolina, last week, calling him 'one of Lindsey's greatest friends.'
- In recent weeks, Andrews has run an independent campaign focused on economic issues, rarely appearing alongside prominent Democrats; her strategy contrasts sharply with Graham's reliance on Trump's repeated rallies.
- Whoever wins will become the first woman elected to represent South Carolina in the U.S. Senate, marking a potential historic shift in a state that has not elected a Democrat since Fritz Hollings won his final term in 1998.
