Former Sheffield Wednesday Boss Danny Röhl Lands New Job After Sealing Rangers Exit
Röhl joins on a three-year contract after Salzburg missed the Austrian title for a third straight season, the club said.
On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, Rangers confirmed head coach Danny Rohl has left by mutual agreement to join Austrian Bundesliga side Red Bull Salzburg on a three-year contract.
Despite Chairman Andrew Cavenagh publicly backing Rohl last month to lead Rangers into the new season, the Ibrox hierarchy did not stand in his way when Salzburg came calling.
Rangers will receive a seven-figure compensation payment for the 37-year-old, while first-team staff Sascha Lense and Tristan Steiner also depart with him to Salzburg.
Rohl told Salzburg's website, "I'm incredibly excited about my new role," while managing director of sport Marcus Mann added the club recruited their "preferred candidate" for pre-season.
Tasked with returning the club to the top of Austrian football after missing the title for three successive seasons, Rohl rejoins the Red Bull network where he began his career at RB Leipzig.
The coach search at Red Bull Salzburg ended a little later than thought. At the presentation of Danny Röhl, sports director Marcus Mann also spoke about the process of agreement with his employer Glasgow Rangers. Add: "The Scots can hear that already.
The 37-year-old German comes from the Glasgow Rangers and follows Daniel Beichler. He takes over a team that has remained titleless since 2023 and five coaches.
