Danby Swanson caps monster doubleheader as Cubs sweep Mets
Swanson drove in 11 runs across two games, breaking the Cubs’ franchise mark and powering a sweep of the Mets.
On Wednesday, Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson drove in 11 runs during a doubleheader sweep of the New York Mets, breaking the franchise record of 10 set by Ron Santo on July 6, 1970.
Swanson, who entered Tuesday with only 14 RBIs in his previous 48 games, attributed his sudden offensive surge to finding consistent work and driving through good pitches.
Through the first three games of the series, Swanson has tallied 15 RBIs and three home runs while batting 7-for-12, marking one of the most prolific single-series performances in team history.
The Mets committed six errors in the second game, extending their losing streak to five games, while the Cubs have now won eight of their last 11 contests.
Chicago Cubs LHP Matthew Boyd is expected to return from the injured list to start Thursday against Mets RHP Freddy Peralta.
Dansby Swanson connected a triple driver of the lead race and towed four races to crown a monstrous performance on a double billboard and help the Chicago Puppies sweep New York's wobbly Mets with a 10-5 win on Wednesday night.
