Heavy storms have caused significant damage in northern Italy, largely paralyzed rail traffic and abruptly ended the summer heat. Landslides, floods and lightning strikes in particular in Lombardy and Liguria are causing a state of emergency. On Friday, more severe storms are threatening.
Heavy storms triggered numerous missions in northern Italy on Thursday. Especially affected were the Gader Valley in South Tyrol as well as parts of Liguria and Lombardy. Mures, landslides and lightning strikes led to roadblocks, evacuations and impairments in rail and air traffic.
