Dacia Hipster concept reinvents the mini EV as EU weighs new small car rules
Dacia's Hipster concept weighs under 800kg, seats four, and targets affordability to expand EV access amid rising costs, with prices expected below £15,000.
- Dacia unveiled the Hipster as a radical electric 'people's car' concept priced from under 12000 in a former airship hangar near Versailles, targeting a wide audience and claiming it would be the cheapest EV on the market.
- Facing rising regulation and electrification, Dacia said it aims to `enable as many people as possible to access essential mobility` amid 63% average new vehicle price increases.
- Weighing less than 800kg, the Hipster measures 1.55m wide, 1.53m high and 3m long, seats four, offers 500 litres folded, and features 11 YouClip accessory mounts with a smartphone mount.
- Executives said a production model could reach showrooms within two years if regulators permit, and Dacia said it would need only two charges a week for typical use.
- Hipster previews a potential European `E-car` category, referencing classic people's cars, but Dacia warned of industrial risk over customer demand and fit with its expertise.
