Iran targets U.S. military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait after wave of US strikes

U.S. Central Command said it struck more than 80 Iranian targets after the ship attacks, while Iran launched missile and drone strikes on Gulf bases.

  • On Tuesday, Qatar blamed Iran for a drone strike on the LNG tanker Al Rekayyat in the Strait of Hormuz, where the captain reported an engine room fire in a recorded radio call.
  • The attack occurred during a mourning period for Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as regional tensions persist despite a stalling 60-day interim peace deal reached last month.
  • United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations sources reported a Saudi-flagged tanker, likely the Wedyan, was also damaged off Oman, while a U.S. official alleged Iran fired at two commercial vessels.
  • Following the incident, Qatar summoned Iran's deputy ambassador to protest the 'unacceptable attack,' as global oil prices rose more than 2% on Tuesday in response to the incidents.
  • Diplomacy remains stalled as President Donald Trump recently threatened on Monday to 'finish the job' if negotiations fail, while the United States continues seeking a deal to curb Iran's nuclear program.
