Dodgers Acquire OF Alek Thomas From Diamondbacks
Thomas gives Los Angeles a left-handed, speedy defender who can play center field and help late in games.
On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired outfielder Alek Thomas from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for 17-year-old outfield prospect Jose Requena.
The Diamondbacks designated Thomas for assignment last week after he batted.181 with two homers and 10 RBIs in 28 games this season.
A solid defender, the 26-year-old Thomas is a.230 career hitter with 31 homers, 143 RBIs, and 28 steals across 448 career games.
To make room for Thomas on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers designated outfielder Michael Siani for assignment; Arizona receives Requena, who was signed in January.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo called the departure 'painful,' reflecting on Thomas's four postseason homers during the team's 2023 World Series run.
