DA: Customer Shot and Killed Inside Cape Cod Restaurant, Suspect Arrested

A male suspect was taken into custody after a patron in his 40s was fatally shot inside Moonfish Restaurant, police said.

  • On Friday night, a man in his 40s was fatally shot at the Moonfish Restaurant in Dennis. Cape and Islands authorities are investigating the shooting, which occurred just before midnight.
  • Owner Velma Mitchell reported that up to 30 patrons were inside the restaurant when gunfire erupted, though no one else suffered injuries. Mitchell did not know the victim.
  • Serving the victim a drink around 11:40 p.m., Mitchell initially mistook gunshots for balloons, saying, 'I heard 'pop pop pop.' But I thought it was a balloon.' Patrons fled to the back door.
  • One male suspect is in custody, according to Cape and Islands District Attorney spokesperson Danielle Whitney. The investigation remains active, and the suspect is expected to appear in Orleans District Court on Monday.
  • Mitchell expressed concern about the business impact, noting a specialized crew spent $3,000 to clean the crime scene Saturday morning. The restaurant remained closed as she assessed recovery.
