Reports: Cubs Sign RHP Liam Hendriks to Minor League Deal
The 37-year-old reliever had a 6.59 ERA in 14 games for Boston last season and gives Chicago another bullpen option.
On Wednesday, the Chicago Cubs agreed to a minor league contract with RHP Liam Hendriks, bolstering their injury-depleted pitching staff with veteran depth.
The Central-leading Cubs have been hit hard by injuries, forcing them to move Ben Brown into the starting rotation while relievers Caleb Thielbar, Hunter Harvey, and Riley Martin remain on the injured list.
During his 14-year career, Hendriks has recorded 116 saves, including back-to-back strong seasons with the Chicago White Sox in 2021 and 2022 when he was named an American League All-Star.
The agreement is pending a physical; the 37-year-old was released by the Minnesota Twins on March 20 after missing 2024 entirely due to Tommy John surgery.
Expected to report to Triple-A Iowa, Hendriks will work to rebuild his form and earn a return to the majors, providing the Cubs with a potential veteran option for their pitching rotation.
