Playa Girón: The victory that humiliated imperialism in the sands of the Zapata Swamp

As April 19 marks the 64th anniversary of the defeated mercenary invasion of Playa Girón (Bahía de Cochinos), the Caribbean island continues to face the onslaughts of Washington and triumph over each of them.

Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, today recalled the U.S. mercenary invasion by Playa Girón, on April 17, 1961, considered the first major defeat of imperialism in Latin America.

On April 19, 1961, Cuba wrote one of the most glorious pages of its history: in less than 72 hours, the revolutionary forces, led by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, defeated in the arenas of Zapata's Ciénega, Playa Girón, the mercenary invasion trained and financed by the United States.
