Man Gets 76 Years for 2023 Shooting of 5 Officers Near Princeton
Karl Holmberg was convicted on seven counts of attempted murder and sentenced to 76 years after shooting five officers during a narcotics warrant execution, officials said.
- On Oct. 13, Benton County Judge Robert Raupp sentenced Holmberg after a jury found him guilty of seven counts of attempted murder in August.
- Seven task force members went to Holmberg's Glendorado home at 225 190th Avenue NE on Oct. 12, 2023 to execute a narcotics warrant, and officers announced the warrant before Holmberg started shooting.
- Holmberg pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm after a prior conviction, was shot, treated at North Memorial Medical Center, and his wife said he claimed `it was his day to die`.
- The defense asked for a 372-month term, noting Holmberg's age and release prospects; he will serve his sentence at Minnesota Correctional Facility-St. Cloud with two years' credit.
- Brad Muellner, Drug Task Force Captain, said the effects are felt every day, while spouses of two officers gave victim impact statements and Judge Robert Raupp stressed two officers very likely could have lost their lives.
