Earnings from cryptovalues such as Bitcoin may be completely tax-free in Germany. Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD) wants to change this. However, there is still to be an allowance.
The Federal Government plans a tax on new crypto profits from 2028. WORLD exclusively contains details: Bitcoin and Ethereum are to be taxed like shares, old stocks remain fully protected.
Germany assesses a possible tax reform that would eliminate, for certain new purchases, the exemption applicable to Bitcoin's profits and other crypto-active assets maintained for more than a year. The proposal is still at an early stage and provides, according to available reports, a cut-off date for acquisitions and a transition that could begin with tax withholdings in 2028.
