Fire Forces Evacuations at Senior Living Facility in Mississippi
Firefighters searched the building and moved evacuated residents to a nearby church as officials said the cause and possible injuries were not immediately known.
At around 5 p.m. Wednesday, a fire broke out at Brookdale Senior Living on East Northside Drive in Clinton, Mississippi, with smoke and flames visible above the building.
Firefighters from Clinton, the Jackson Fire Department, and Hinds County Volunteer Fire Department are working to bring the blaze under control while conducting secondary searches.
Residents who were evacuated are being bused to Morrison Heights Baptist Church on Hampstead Boulevard, while officials confirmed residents had been rescued but crews continue checking rooms.
Marlee Price-Cook, director of communications for Clinton, stated the "Majority of the building is gone," describing it as the most involved incident in her four years with the city.
Information about the fire's cause and potential injuries remains unavailable as officials request the public avoid the immediate area to allow emergency crews to work.
