In the Gelderland village of Eerbeek, work has begun on covering a former landfill containing approximately 230,000 tons of steel slag. First, the sides of the several-meter-high mound on the edge of the Veluwe will be covered, with the top to follow in 2027. Currently, 15,000 solar panels sit on top of the mound, which will be temporarily removed to install, among other things, sheeting, drainage mats, and a layer of soil.
