Five-star Brighton breeze past 10-man Coventry City
On Sunday, Brighton defeated Coventry 5-0 at the Coventry Building Society Arena, moving into fourth place in the Premier League while Frank Lampard's side remained rooted to the bottom without a point.
Coventry has now lost four consecutive Premier League matches without scoring a goal. The Sky Blues remain the only team in the top flight yet to earn a point.
Following goals from Charalampos Kostoulas and Malick Yalcouye, Coventry's Taiwo Awoniyi was sent off in the 53rd minute for violent conduct. Premier League officials confirmed the red card, stating "the referee's call of red card to Awoniyi for violent conduct was checked and confirmed by VAR."
Pascal Gross, Yasin Ayari, and Lewis Dunk scored to complete the 5-0 rout as Brighton capitalized on their numerical advantage. Dunk's 25-yard strike was described by pundit Lee Hendrie as "one of the goal of the season contenders already."
Seeking their first league goal since 2001, Coventry must rebuild after the defeat. Brighton will host Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, September 16 for their next test.
