Couple on 'bucket list' trip before fatal zipline fall
The 2019 zipline failure at Cape Tribulation led to a 25-meter fall and raised concerns about equipment and staff emergency readiness, the inquest heard.
- On October 22, 2019, Dean Anson Sanderson, 50, died after falling up to 25m on a Cape Tribulation zipline while riding with his wife Shannon Sanderson.
- As they traversed the 86-metre span, witnesses said the couple on tandem zipline harnesses and steel cable lost momentum and started to fall, Ms Freeman said.
- Witnesses reported a loud bang and tower vibration before tourist Steve Pattinson and Zipline staff used the site emergency equipment, taking turns to revive Mr Sanderson for about 90 minutes.
- Keydane stopped operating and is no longer registered, with Treetops Adventure taking over, while the coronial inquest continues with witnesses due on March 10.
- On the trip the couple called a 'bucket list' holiday, Shannon Sanderson spent 10 days in hospital and another tourist, Andrew Hayward, said he suffered torn ligaments and was not offered first aid despite staff calling a code red.
