Couple marries in hospital after groom badly injured in crash on way to wedding
After a head-on crash left the groom with broken arms and a fractured jaw, the couple exchanged vows in a hospital room with family present.
On Saturday, Sept. 5, Kapri DeRamus and Tyasia Thomas married in an Altamonte Springs hospital room after DeRamus suffered critical injuries in a head-on collision while driving to their wedding venue.
The accident occurred 15 minutes from the venue near Hermits Trail and State Road 436 when a speeding vehicle lost control, struck the median, and collided head-on with DeRamus's car.
DeRamus underwent three surgeries for broken arms, ribs, and a jaw before exchanging vows with Thomas inside his hospital room, officiated by his grandfather.
Though the couple could have rescheduled, they proceeded with the ceremony that evening, and DeRamus was discharged Wednesday, Sept. 9, four days after the wedding.
Thomas's brother launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover mounting expenses including medical bills and lost income, which has raised 66% of its target as the couple faces recovery.
